This one-of-a-kind lampshade is hand painted with a rhythmic border of stylised leaves, small flowers and decorative arches. The design draws inspiration from the playful painted interiors of Charleston Farmhouse (home of artists Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant, artists who formed part of the Bloomsbury Group) where everyday surfaces were transformed with colour and pattern.
Each motif has been painted freehand, giving the shade a lively, slightly irregular character that feels unmistakably handmade. The palette combines warm terracotta, soft green, ochre and rose on an off-white ground — colours chosen to sit comfortably within both traditional and contemporary interiors.
When lit, the shade casts a soft, warm glow that emphasises the painted pattern and creates a gentle atmosphere in the room. Designed as a decorative object as much as a functional one, it brings a quietly artistic presence to a bedside table, sideboard or reading corner.
As with all Melanie Lewis lampshades, this piece is entirely unique.

TAKING CARE OF YOUR LAMPSHADE
Care of your lampshade - I have been painting lampshades for nearly 10 years now, using professional artist's paint which is designed to be lightfast and not fade. You do not need to treat your lampshade any differently to a normal fabric lampshade - a light dust from time to time is all it will need. The paint sinks into the fabric fibres, as it would on a canvas, so once dry, it effectively becomes part of the shade and will not chip or flake.
