This one-of-a-kind lampshade is painted entirely by hand using a palette of Naples Yellow, Dusky Rose and Indian Yellow.
The design on this hand painted cotton lampshade is inspired by Tudor tiles of daisy motifs that I saw in Jackfield Tile Museum in nearby Ironbridge Gorge in Shropshire. It is a motif that William Morris also used successfully in several of is fabric and wallpaper designs. I love the idea of the humble daisy being elevated into a design for a domestic interior. I particularly enjoy painting botanical motifs and think these work so well on a lampshade.
The palette was chosen to complement classic English interiors and works particularly beautifully alongside colours such as Farrow & Ball's Indian Yellow or Dining Room Red.
When illuminated, the translucent layers of paint create a gentle warmth that brings the patterns softly to life.
Each shade is painted slowly and individually in my Shropshire studio, meaning no two will ever be the same.
Designed as a small piece of functional artwork, it works beautifully on a bedside table, reading lamp or console table. A true artisan British lampshade.

TAKING CARE OF YOUR LAMPSHADE
Care of your lampshade - I have been painting lampshades for nearly 10 years now, using professional artist's paint which is designed to be lightfast and not fade. You do not need to treat your lampshade any differently to a normal fabric lampshade - a light dust from time to time is all it will need. The paint sinks into the fabric fibres, as it would on a canvas, so once dry, it effectively becomes part of the shade and will not chip or flake.
