Ruby Harlequin — Hand-Painted Decorative Lampshade

This hand-painted lampshade features a bold geometric design in layered shades of ruby, rose and deep claret. The pattern is built from scalloped panels and rhythmic decorative borders, creating a strong architectural composition that wraps elegantly around the shade.

Bands of hand-painted diamonds and triangular motifs frame the design, echoing traditional decorative friezes while giving the piece a distinctly contemporary feel. The palette of rich reds and warm pinks creates a striking contrast against the ivory detailing, giving the shade a confident, graphic presence.

The lampshade has been painted entirely by hand using artist’s acrylic, allowing the brushwork and subtle tonal shifts within each panel to remain visible. When lit, the colours deepen and the painted borders become even more pronounced, creating a warm, atmospheric glow.

This piece marks the first lampshade created by my daughter, who recently graduated with a First Class Honours degree in History of Art and now works within the world of designer fashion. Her design brings a fresh perspective to the studio, drawing on a strong sense of colour, pattern and silhouette.

As with all Melanie Lewis lampshades, this piece is entirely unique.

I post all my lampshades in EXTREMELY sturdy boxes that I spent a long time sourcing.  I have not yet had a single shade damaged in transit as a result.  Your shade will come beautifully wrapped in tissue and securely packaged.  I send all my  shades using Royal Mail Tracked 24.

TAKING CARE OF YOUR LAMPSHADE

Care of your lampshade - I have been painting lampshades for nearly 10 years now, using professional artist's paint which is designed to be lightfast and not fade.  You do not need to treat your lampshade any differently to a normal fabric lampshade - a light dust from time to time is all it will need.  The paint sinks into the fabric fibres, as it would on a canvas, so once dry, it effectively becomes part of the shade and will not chip or flake.
